🈷 Furigana & Pinyin
Adds readings above the text of an EPUB: furigana for Japanese, pinyin or zhuyin for Chinese. The reader's Furigana or Pinyin / Zhuyin toggle hides them again.
1. The book
Readings the book already has are kept.
2. Where the readings come from
The whole text of the book is sent to Google's Gemini API, sentence
by sentence, under your own key. Pictures and the file itself stay here. A novel takes a few
hundred requests; the page retries when Gemini's rate limits slow it down.

Dictionary or AI?
Both add a reading only where it fits the word as written; anything doubtful is left out rather than guessed.
- Chinese, dictionary: each character takes the reading of the word it belongs to. A character with several readings standing alone takes its first one: 石 comes out as dàn rather than shí.
- Japanese, dictionary: each word takes its usual reading. Where the sentence decides (今日 is きょう or こんにち), it always takes the likelier one, and rare names may stay bare.
- AI: Gemini reads each sentence and picks the reading meant there; for Chinese, CC-CEDICT checks it and fills in anything it misses.
